Information from Staff Parish Relations Committee & Rev. Deborah Ackley-Killian, Butler District Superintendent
Dear Member & Friends of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church,
On Sunday, August 6th, it was announced that the Bishop and Cabinet have appointed the Rev. Dr. Susan Moudry to serve as our interim pastor, beginning in September. We are thrilled to share this news and hope you will join us for Pastor Susan’s first Sunday with us on September 3rd. (Also, please join us on September 10th for a Welcome Reception for Pastor Susan after the service. That Sunday will also be the opening of Sunday School.)
Pastor Susan has previously served in the local church, on western Pennsylvania Conference staff, and at Brite Divinity School. She is an ordained elder and also holds a Ph.D. in the History of Christianity. She looks forward to sharing her gifts and skills with our church and community as we work together to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
As you may know, the Staff Parish Relations Committee has recently identified three areas of focus for SRUMC. These include: Education and Fellowship; Senior Life; and University Outreach. We also invite all members and friends to become active in the ministry of our church. Areas of need are as a Sundays School leader, member of the welcome committee, music, prayer group, or an area you feel called to share your time and gifts. Please call Kathleen Strickland at 724-794-1079 to discuss this further.
Pastor Susan wants to personally add: “I am excited to be your pastor. I look forward to getting to know each of you and to learning more about Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, the community, and dreams for the future. I know this has been a difficult season. Be assured, I am praying for you and believe deeply that the Holy Spirit is at work in this moment.”
We invite you, too, to be in prayer for this transitional season in our church. We sincerely hope you’ll join us in the weeks ahead to greet Pastor Susan, participate in the life of the church, and dream with us about all that is yet to be.
With hope,
The SPRC and Pastor Susan Moudry
